swichting power packs

i had des x-box 360 but it the three rings on it but i nevewr throw it away but, now i got a new 1 but on the battey pack the lights just yesterday swichted frm yellow to red i havent tried it since but i was wonder if i could swicht the battey packs, would the old mess up my new x-box or would it do nothing
