xbox 360 arcade MSRP or hardware change?

I was at two different 'major' retailers yesterday to replace a dead xbox 360 and both retailers increased the MSRP from 199 to 229. Their websites still advertised the xbox 360 arcade for 199. But the store clerk said the lot numbers had changed and the units are now 229 vs. 199. They attributed the price increase to an 'upgrade' in the hardware but they couldn't tell me what the hardware change was. They even called Microsoft support to ask what the changes were and they couldn't explain the changes (in fact MS support got pissed and just hung up). The only thing I noticed was they removed the free arcade games but the internal memory was still 256MB. Some forums report an increase of the internal memory to 512. The Jasper hardware upgrade was last year and units containing the jasper hardware were sold for 199.

Can any one tell me if they heard of a recent hardware change or upgrade or are they just increasing the MSRP ?
